ESPN’s “College GameDay” was in familiar South Bend last week, which came as no surprise. Even with a loaded slate of games, nothing was bigger than Notre Dame’s matchup with Ohio State.
On the field, it turned out to be the game of the week as well. The Fighting Irish led for much of the fourth quarter, only to surrender the lead with a second left in regulation. Did ESPN get it right this week as well?
“College GameDay” already broke a 27-year drought this season by going to Boulder. Now, the show is going somewhere it has never been before.

Here’s the information on ESPN’s “College GameDay” location and guest picker for Week 5.
Where is ‘College GameDay’ location for Week 5?
- Location: Durham, N.C.
- Time: 9 a.m. ET
- Matchup: No. 11 Notre Dame vs. No. 17 Duke
“College GameDay” is headed to Durham for the first time in the show’s history.
With Duke off to a 4-0 start, the Blue Devils’ showdown with Notre Dame is one of Week 5’s biggest matchups. Duke opened its season with a 28-7 win over Clemson, one of the most significant victories in program history, and QB Riley Leonard has Mike Elko’s team believing it can compete for an ACC title.
Notre Dame isn’t undefeated, thanks to a last-second loss to Ohio State last weekend, but the Fighting Irish remain a top-15 team in the country. Transfer QB Sam Hartman has looked stellar since arriving in South Bend, though the offense wasn’t consistent enough against the Buckeyes to earn a statement win.
Taking down Duke on the road would at least keep Notre Dame in the playoff conversation ahead of a matchup with USC two weeks from now.
Notre Dame is no stranger to “College GameDay.” ESPN brought the show to South Bend one week ago, for the Irish’s blockbuster matchup with the Buckeyes. This time, the show’s cheering section will be rooting against the Fighting Irish. Duke football is on the map, and Blue Devils fans have waited a long time for their moment in the spotlight.
Notre Dame vs. Duke won’t start until 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, but “GameDay” gets things going bright and early Saturday.
