The Twins took care of business in Game 1 of their Wild Card Series against the Blue Jays.

Minnesota rookie Royce Lewis was the star of the 3-1 victory, smashing two home runs to account for all three of the Twins’ RBIs. He tagged Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman for both long balls — a two-run shot in the first inning to get the party started and a solo home run in the third to build on the lead.

Toronto showed a little bit of life in the sixth inning when Kevin Kiermaier knocked in Bo Bichette on an RBI single, but the Blue Jays didn’t put much scare into the Twins after that. Minnesota closer Jhoan Duran came in and slammed the door shut in the ninth inning, striking out two the first two batters he faced before closing out the game.

Now, Toronto faces a win-or-go-home scenario in Game 2.

Chris Bassitt vs. Sonny Gray is the expected matchup on the mound. Bassitt was well worth his three-year, $63 million deal he signed this offseason. In his first season as a Blue Jay, the righty posted a 3.60 ERA and 1.175 WHIP over 33 starts. He went 18-6 while striking out 186 batters.

Gray had his best season since 2015, putting together a 2.79 ERA and a 1.147 WHIP over 184 innings. He went 8-8 with 183 K’s, earning his third All-Star nod in the process.
