Two of the most exciting teams in the league are going head-to-head today at Frankfurt Stadium, as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs face off against Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins. Kansas City and Miami are two of four AFC teams that are 6-2 on the season. The Chiefs are in first in the AFC West, while the Dolphins own the top spot in the AFC East.

Last week, Mahomes suffered his first loss to the Broncos in his career, as Denver snapped a 16-game losing streak against Kansas City by handing the defending Super Bowl champions a stunning loss at Mile High. The star QB was battling through a flu, but was unable to extend the team’s winning streak.

For the Finns, they knocked off the Patriots last week for the second time this season, improving to 4-0 at home. Tagovailoa enjoyed another strong game, throwing for over 300 yards for the fourth time this season, while adding three passing TDs.

There is a good chance that the German NFL fans will be treated to a shootout. These juggernauts are two of the top passing teams in the league this year, ranking first and third in passing yards per game. The Dolphins lead the NFL with an average of 301.5 yards per game, while the Chiefs are not too far behind, averaging 276.4 yards.

End of the first half: Chiefs 21, Dolphins 0

11:02 a.m. β€” Mahomes’ takes a knee to end the first half. It has been an excellent showing today by Stev Spagnuolo’s defense on the Kansas City side, shutting out the top offense in the league through the first 30 minutes. The Chiefs take a commanding 21-0 lead into the half.

11:01 a.m. β€” Bailey’s punt attempt clanks the scoreboard at the stadium. It was an issue in warmups, but all it is a redo.

10:59 a.m. β€” The Dolphins have no response to the fumble recovery, subsequently going three-and-out on the next drive. With 18 seconds left, Bailey is back out for a punt.

Chiefs 21, Dolphins 0

10:54 a.m. β€” Fumble touchdown! The Dolphins try a screen pass to Hill that is blown up immediately by Trey McDuffie, who strips the ball out of Hill’s hands. It’s picked up by Mike Edwards, who then lateraled it back to Bryan Cook and he took it all the way to the house. Just as Miami began to find its rhythm on offense, a costly turnover gives Kansas City seven points with 33 seconds left in the half.

10:52 a.m. β€” Miami’s offense is finally starting to click. The Dolphins connect on their third positive play in a row, as Tagovailoa throws an 19-yard completion to Hill.

10:49 a.m. β€” Ahmed rushes for a pickup of nine yards on first down, and then Tagovailoa finds Waddle for a gain of 14 to reach the Miami 48-yard line. The two-minute warning hits in Frankfurt with the Dolphins at midfield, still searching for their first points of the day.

Chiefs 14, Dolphins 0

10:45 a.m. β€” Touchdown! On third-and-3, Mahomes finds his safety valve McKinnon at the line of scrimmage, and no one touches the Chiefs running back as he sprints 17 yards into the end zone. Mahomes and Co. drive 95 yards and eat up over eight minutes to double their lead.

10:43 a.m. β€” On second-and-12, Mahomes drops a dime right over Jalen Ramsey to an open Moore on the outside for a gain of 23 yards. The Chiefs are now at the Dolphins’ 24-yard line.

10:40 a.m. β€” Kadarius Toney is not an easy man to tackle. Mahomes finds him on a slant, and the Chiefs wide receiver spins, twists and pushes to pick a total of 18 yards to cross into Miami territory.

10:37 a.m. β€” A holding call on Miami’s Bradley Chubb gives Kansas City a first down, and then two plays later, Pacheco rushes for a gain of seven on second-and-5 to pick up another. The Chiefs have moved the ball to their own 35-yard line.

10:34 a.m. β€” Rice makes a massive play for the Chiefs on third down. Needing five yards to pick up a first, the KC wide receiver dives for a ball and comes up with the grab, getting six yards to move the chains.

10:27 a.m. β€” The punt is downed at the Kansas City nine-yard line, but a holding penalty on the play pushes the Chiefs back to their own four-yard line. Mahomes and Co. have a long way to go to the end zone.

10:26 a.m. β€” It’s another awful drive for the Miami offense. Tagovailoa is called for intentional grounding on second down, pushing them back to third-and-20. The completion on third down only gets 10 yards, and it will now be four punts on four drives for this high-flying Dolphins offense.

10:22 a.m. β€” On third-and-17, Mahomes completes a pass to Jerick McKinnon, but only for a gain of five yards. It’s another punt for the Chiefs, who haven’t strung anything together since the opening drive that resulted in a TD.

10:20 a.m. β€” Mahomes tosses a short pass to Mecole Hardman in motion, but the trick play is sniffed out by Christian Wilkins, as the Miami lineman wraps up Hardman for a loss of seven on first down. The Chiefs are pushed back to their own 10-yard line.

10:11 a.m. β€” A pass to Hill gains 10 yards, but the Miami offense stalls out after. Tagovailoa had Hill on second down on a deep ball, but it slipped out of the receiver’s fingertips. For the third time today, Jake Bailey will come out for a Dolphins punt.

End of the first quarter: Chiefs 7, Dolphins 0

10:11 a.m. β€” Tommy Townsend boots it away for KC, and Braxton Berrios calls for a fair catch at his own 30-yard line. That’s how the first quart ends.

10:10 a.m. β€” The Chiefs pick up a first down on the first two plays of the drive, but can’t get a another. Mahomes launched one deep to Justin Watson on third down, but he overthrew his receiver. The Chiefs will punt for the second consecutive drive.

10:04 a.m. β€” Tagovailoa dumps one off to Salvon Ahmed, but the Chiefs wrap up the Dolphins running back well before getting a first down. The Dolphins have to punt with 2:04 left in the first quarter.

10:03 a.m. β€” On third-and-9, Tagovailoa finds Waddle for a 17 yards, but the Dolphins are called for illegal shift. It’s now third-and-15 for Miami.

10:01 a.m. β€” Miami crosses into Kansas City territory thanks to a 17-yard reception from Tyreek Hill on first down. The Dolphins have the ball at the Chiefs’ 43-yard line.

9:59 a.m. β€” Waddle went into the medical tent briefly after his injury, but he’s back for the Dolphins. He takes a reverse on second down and races for a gain of 12 yards.

9:55 a.m. β€” After the two Pacheco runs, the Chiefs can only manage three yards on the next three plays and are forced to punt.

9:53 a.m. β€” Isaiah Pacheco rumbles for gains of eight and nine yards to start out Kansas City’s second drive.

9:49 a.m. β€” Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo sends pressure on third down, and it pays off. Jaylen Watson was the first to get to Tagovailoa, but Mike Danna gets credit for the sack. The Dolphins’ first drive ends in a punt.

9:48 a.m. β€” The Chiefs give the Dolphins the five yard right back, as Chris Jones is called for a neutral zone infraction.

9:47 a.m. β€” Mike McDaniel is forced to call a timeout on third-and-9 with the play clock nearly hitting zero. On the next play, Chase Claypool is called for a false start, and now it’s third-and14 for Miami.

9:44 a.m. β€” On the second play, a run by Raheem Mostert goes nowhere, but Waddle is down. The Miami WR got his legs taken out in a scrum and stayed down on the field for a bit. He walked to the sidelines with the training staff.

9:43 a.m. β€” The Dolphins come out hot as well. Tua Tagovailoa zips one to Jaylen Waddle for a pickup of 14 yards on their first offensive play.

Chiefs 7, Dolphins 0

9:40 a.m. β€” Touchdown! After the Watson TD is called back, Mahomes throws a screen to Rashee Rice, who scampers in from 11 yards out for the touchdown. Kansas City carved up the Miami defense on that opening drive, needing less than three minutes to go 75 yards and get on the board. Harrison Butker’s extra point is good, and it’s an early seven-point lead for KC.

9:39 a.m. β€” After review the Watson catch is ruled incomplete. No touchdown.

9:36 a.m. β€” Right after the Gray catch, Mahomes connects with Justin Watson in the end zone for a touchdown, but the play is going to review. It looks like the Kansas City wide receiver may not have had control of the ball when he hit the ground.

9:36 a.m. β€” Mahomes is coming out firing. On third-and-2, he finds Skyy Moore for a gain of 10, then hits Noah Gray for a 25-yard reception. The Chiefs have the ball at the Dolphins 11-yard line.

9:35 a.m. β€” Mahomes and the offense wastes no time getting things going, as the QB finds Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a gain of 21 yards on the first offensive play.

9:33 a.m. β€” The Dolphins kick it away, and the game is underway in Germany. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs start with the ball.

Pregame

9:15 a.m. β€” Frankfurt Stadium has a noticeably low Jumbotron, and it may be an issue today. Rich Eisen reported that multiple punts clanked off the scoreboard during warmups. If this happens during the game, the play is called dead, and it’s a re-do.

8:58 a.m. β€” The winner of today’s Germany game has a chance at finishing Week 9 in sole possession of first place in the AFC. The Chiefs and Dolphins are both 6-2, tied with the Ravens and Jaguars. Jacksonville is on a bye this week, while Baltimore has a tough matchup against a 5-2 Seattle squad at home.

8:40 a.m. β€” Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott got the memo for the Germany game, sporting a German lederhosen for his arrival at Frankfurt Stadium.

8:21 a.m. β€” For the Dolphins, their five international games are tied for the second-most among all NFL teams, however these global contest have not treated Miami well. The Dolphins are 1-4 in international games and on a three-game losing streak in these matchups, with their last win coming in 2014.

8:09 a.m. β€” The Chiefs have played two international games so far in team history. The first came in 2015 when Kansas City faced Detroit at Wembley Stadium and throttled the Lions to the tune of 45-10. Their second game was in Mexico City at Estadio Azteca, where the Chiefs beat the Chargers 24-17.

8 a.m. β€” Today’s game marks the second game played in Germany, but first in Frankfurt. The NFL brought a game to Munich during the 2022 season.
