With the 2024 NHL playoff race in its final days, teams are still fighting for their playoff lives in a crowded Eastern Conference, which includes Metropolitan foes in the Capitals (39-31-11, 89 points) Flyers (38-32-11, 87 points), who are neck-and-neck in the playoff picture.

The Capitals nearly fell out of the playoff conversation with five straight losses in March, including defeats at the hands of the Bruins and Hurricanes. Since March turned to April, however, the Capitals have found new life and help from critical goal-scorers such as Dylan Strome to revitalize the offensive attack.

Washington has won three of its last four, including a critical 2-0 victory over the Bruins on Monday night. That result and the Red Wings’ overtime triumph against the Canadiens leaves Washington and Detroit even at 89 points.

The Flyers have struggled recently, but similarly to Washington, they have gotten out of their slump at just the right time, winning back-to-back games against the Rangers and Devils.

Philadelphia will need another win Tuesday, as a regulation or overtime loss would give the Capitals the final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Which team will avoid cracking under immense playoff pressure with the postseason starting Saturday? Here is all you need to know ahead of Tuesday night’s game.
