Football is often a family affair. Whether it’s in the little leagues or high school, college or the NFL, football is passed down through generations.

Keon Coleman is about to continue his own family’s legacy.

The Florida State wide receiver helped his team to an undefeated regular season in 2023. It went down as one of the biggest snubs of the playoffs when the perfect Seminoles did not make the College Football Playoff — and they they didn’t win their bowl game either, as they were crushed by Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

But a new journey starts for Coleman this week with the 2024 NFL Draft. The wide receiver will continue to make his family proud as he joins his cousin in the league. Who might his cousin be? None other than Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb.

Is Keon Coleman related to CeeDee Lamb?

Coleman and Lamb were both born in Opelousas, Louisiana. Coincidence, right?

It seemed to be — until the Florida State star dropped the bomb that Lamb is actually his cousin. He revealed the news after a formal meeting with the Cowboys during the NFL combine.

“Playing with CeeDee Lamb. That would be a dream come true. That’s actually my cousin. That would be great. I worked out with him. He has a very elusive game. I feel like he can do some of the things I can do,” Coleman said. “He has a little extra sauce to his game. I would love to play with him some day.”

It’s possible that dream could come true this year. The Cowboys hold the 24th pick in the second and third rounds, and Coleman is one of the top receiving options left on the board after Day 1.

Keon Coleman NFL Draft projection

Coleman is predicted to be selected in the second round of the NFL Draft. Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer has the Florida State star going late in the second round as the 51st overall pick to the Steelers.

Here’s what Iyer has to say about Coleman, who he ranks the eighth-best receiver in the 2024 Draft class:

“Coleman isn’t quite up to speed with all the fast field-stretchers in this class, but he can compensate with his technically sound route running and reliable hands. He also has the frame and quickness to operate well after the catch,” Iyer writes.

Keon Coleman stats

Coleman spent two seasons at Michigan State before transferring to Florida State. With the Seminoles in 2023, he recorded the most receiving touchdowns (11) in the ACC.

He earned first-team All ACC honors as a wide receiver, all-purpose player and return specialist. Coleman was the first Florida State player to earn three all-conference honors in a single season.
