For the second consecutive season, Manchester City face off with local rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
Last year, City came out on top with a 2-1 victory thanks to a brace from Ilkay Gundogan, taking a significant step towards their historic treble.
While City aren’t able to complete a treble this season, after being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, they still have the chance to secure a domestic double if they defeat the Red Devils, having clinched a record fourth consecutive Premier League title last weekend.
Erik ten Hag comes into this final under immense pressure following a worst-ever finish in the league as United finished eighth. There is mounting speculation that this will be the Dutchman’s last game in charge, irrespective of the result.
This final also represents their last opportunity to win silverware in the 2023/24 season and secure European football next term.
Ten Hag’s campaign has been plagued with injuries throughout the year but has some star players returning to the squad.

City’s absentee is goalkeeper Ederson, who missed the final match of the season against West Ham due to a fractured eye socket that will also keep him out of Brazil’s Copa America squad. Stefan Ortega would likely have started in goal anyway as he is the usual keeper for domestic cup matches.
Guardiola must decide whether to stick with Jeremy Doku or bring in another ball-playing midfielder such as Mateo Kovacic.

United’s long injury list is finally clearing but there are still plenty of question marks over the starting lineup.
Ten Hag confirmed on May 23 that Harry Maguire would not be available despite earlier hope that the centre-back would have recovered in time from a muscle injury. Luke Shaw is not expected to be ready for the match.
