Poland will have to do things the hard way in Euro 2024 Group D, where they begin their campaign against the Netherlands in Hamburg.

Along with being drawn in the same section as an all-star France side, head coach Michal Probierz will be without attacking talisman Robert Lewandowski when they take on the Oranje.

Ronald Koeman led his country to the final of the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019 but missed an underwhelming Euro 2020 after leaving to take charge of Barcelona.

He returned to replace the retiring Louis van Gaal after the Dutch had managed a run to the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but his side has been hit by injuries to key midfield personnel ahead of this tournament.

The Sporting News is following Poland vs. Netherlands live, providing score updates, commentary and highlights as they happen.

16th minute: GOALLL! POLAND LEAD! Buksa gets ahead of Van Dijk at the corner and heads past Verbruggen. It was the perfect corner routine.

15th minute: Memphis produces a fine piece of skill down the left to create space and he manages to find Veerman who plays the ball out to Simons but he wastes a long-range effort.

8th minute: Reijnders has another opportunity for the Oranje but he can’t quite hit the target after another nice move from the Netherlands.

Poland vs. Netherlands lineups, team news, starting 11

Poland will be without their top scorer Robert Lewandowski and Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik after being ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury suffered during the June 7 friendly against Ukraine.

Coach Michal Probierz will need to get creative with his attack. Karol Swiderski, despite an ankle problem, might play as a false nine. Alternatively, Krzysztof Piatek could lead the line.

In goal, experienced Wojciech Szczesny, with 82 caps, will start. Piotr Zielinski, another Italy-based player, will aim to control the midfield.

Poland predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): (3-5-1-1):  Szczesny (GK) — Bednarek, Dawidowicz, Kiwior — Frankowski, Slisz, Piotrowski, Moder, Zalewski — Zielinski — Buksa.

Poland subs (max 15): Matchday squad released one hour prior to kickoff

The Netherlands also suffered injury blows ahead of Euro 2024. Frenkie de Jong, Marten De Roon, and Teun Koopmeiners were all forced to stay at home to blow a hole in Ronald Koeman’s midfield plans.

Borussia Dortmund full-back Ian Maatsen has been called up but Nathan Ake or Micky van de Ven are expected to start on the left side of defence.

Memphis Depay is expected to lead the line in Brian Brobbery’s injury absence, with Wout Weghorst a likely option off the bench. Denzel Dumfries, who provided five assists in qualifying, is likely to feature on the right, facing competition from Jeremie Frimpong.

Netherlands predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen (GK) — Dumfries, Van Dijk, Ake, Van de Ven — Schouten, Veerman — Simons, Reijnders, Gakpo — Depay.
