Algerian welterweight Imane Khelif defeated Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori in the quarterfinal round at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday, guaranteeing herself at least a bronze medal.
After her latest victory, Khelif addressed the gender controversy that has sparked heated discussions throughout the Summer Games, saying, “I want to tell the entire world that I am a female, and I will remain a female.”
Khelif failed a gender eligibility test at the World Boxing Championships last year, but the International Boxing Association (IBA) has not released the results of the gender test or explained how it arrived at that conclusion. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rejected the IBA’s decision and made it clear that all of the boxers in the women’s category are in compliance with eligibility rules. A chaotic press conference on Monday only created more questions about the IBA’s credibility.
The 25-year-old has said that the best response to critics would be winning a gold medal. In order to keep that dream alive, Khelif will have to beat Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng in the semifinal round.
Here is everything you need to know about watching Khelif in the women’s boxing semifinals, including TV and streaming options for the Olympic event.

- Boxers score points by punching an opponent’s head or torso. A boxer earns points for every successful hit to a target area.
- Five judges sitting ringside evaluate the fight and give the boxers scores based on a 10-point system. The winner of the round receives 10 points, while the loser of the round can receive seven to nine points based on that boxer’s performance.
- A boxer can win based on point totals, but it is also possible to win via knockout (KO), disqualification (DSQ), a referee stopping the contest (RSC or RSC-I for injury) or a corner throwing in the towel (ABD).
