The Boston Red Sox have been struggling the past 18 games, going 7-11, and have only averaged 3.8 runs in those games. Something that is the main factor to this problem is their superstar slugger and third baseman, Rafael Devers, is on a huge cold streak. In 60 appearances, Devers has gotten on base 12 times.

It seems like how well the Sox offense does directly correlates to how well Devers does. He is the backbone of the Red Sox offense after all, but having his performance decide whether they win or lose is pretty insane.

Over the season, Devers has been playing at an All-Star level. He is averaging .281/.360/.552/.912, and has 28 homers with 80 RBI’s. His average was over .300 a while ago before this cold streak.

The thing is, Devers is also playing with a lingering injury. His shoulder has been sore since All-Star Weekend, where he actually opted-out of the festivities to rest his shoulder. It’s definitely a factor to his hitting.

Overall, the Sox need to learn not to rely on him. It’s probably why Devers is hurt, from carrying most of the offensive burden. They all have shown to be capable hitters, especially Jarren Duran and Triston Casas. They need to lead the team and have them swinging to put the ball in play, so those two can score them.
