Two teams with postseason plans in their future — the Fever and Aces — tip off tonight in Indianapolis in the first of two matchups between them this week.

Rookie of the Year favorite Caitlin Clark will reunite with former Iowa teammate Kate Martin as both squads fight for playoff seeding.

Entering the game in sixth place overall, Indiana is coming off a gutsy overtime win at home against the Dream. Aliyah Boston scored a career-high 30 points in the contest along with 13 rebounds, and Clark notched a 26-point, 12-assist double-double in her 10th consecutive game of 19 points or more. Lexie Hull is also shooting an incredible 67.6% from three since returning from the All-Star break, providing a much-needed boost to the Fever’s offense.

Just two places above Indiana in the standings, the defending champion Aces sustained a close loss Sunday to the Liberty without leading MVP candidate A’ja Wilson. The center is dealing with a leg injury but the team did not report any injuries ahead of tonight’s game, indicating she may return. In Wilson’s absence, Kelsey Plum led all scorers against New York with 25 points despite the 75-71 loss. Additionally, Las Vegas signed center Queen Egbo on Monday to a 7-day contract in case Wilson’s injury keeps her sidelined for longer than expected.

Fever vs. Aces results, updates highlights

(All times Eastern)

Second quarter

7:29 p.m. — With only one starter on the floor in Gray, Las Vegas is dominating the second frame. Gray hits a layup and Alysha Clark adds a three to increase the margin to nine. Wilson then re-enters for the Aces with one point separating her and the single-season scoring record.

7:27 p.m. — Hayes is fouled and makes 1-of-2 shots from the stripe before assisting Gray on another field goal. Then, Clark hits her first three of the game to keep the deficit at four, 25-21 Aces with just under eight minutes remaining in the half.

7:25 p.m. — Wilson takes a seat on the bench to start the second frame as Gray enters the game. Gustafson starts off the quarter with a driving layup assisted by Hayes to put the Aces up four.

End of first quarter: Aces 20, Fever 18

7:20 p.m. — Wilson is unable to snag the record in the first quarter, missing two jumpers as the clock wound down. Still, the Aces come out of the frame with a two point lead.

7:18 p.m. — Wheeler nails a three to give the Fever back the lead and Young returns the favor with a jump shot at the other end. Then, Hayes hits a deep triple to give the Aces their first lead of the game at 20-18 with 43 seconds remaining in the quarter.

7:16 p.m. — All of a sudden the Aces have tied it up at 15 with 2:22 remaining in the quarter. Hayes scores the teams last five points with two free throws and a three to erase the deficit.

7:14 p.m. — Hull fouls Wilson, who hits two free throws to notch 10 points on the night. There is now one point between her and the single season record.

7:12 p.m. — Wilson has scored the first eight points for Las Vegas and is looking like she will set the record before halftime. Mitchell hits a three for Indiana and Clark adds a field goal, though, keeping the Fever in front 12-8 with just under five minutes remaining.

7:10 p.m. — The Aces finally get a point on the board thanks to Wilson after going 0-7 through the first three minutes of play. The center hits another jumper shortly after to shave the deficit to three, and Wilson is only seven points away from the single-season scoring record.

7:06 p.m. — Plum attempts a three after the break but misses and Clark grabs the board. Boston receives a pass from Mitchell at the other end and nails a field goal to extend the Fever’s lead to seven.

7:03 p.m. — Boston wins the tip and Clark takes possession. Mitchell starts things off with a short jumper and Hull follows that up with a triple assisted by Clark, boosting her 3-point percentage over 70%. The Aces take a timeout with 9:24 to go in the first as the Fever lead 5-0.

7 p.m. — It’s time for tip! Tonight’s matchup should get underway any minute.

Pregame

6:50 p.m. — Starting lineups have been announced for both teams. Indiana’s first five remains unchanged from their prior matchup against the Dream, with Clark, Mitchell, Hull, Boston and Smith set to take the court. Wilson is back in the Aces starting core, alongside Gray, Plum, Young and Stokes. Ten minutes to go before tipoff.

6:40 p.m. — BetMGM has the Aces as 4.5-point favorites over the Fever. Las Vegas has won both matchups this season by 19 points each, dominating Indiana so far. There are two opportunities this week for Clark & Co. to even the score before the postseason.

6:20 p.m. — While she’s already on the court warming up, some are commenting that Wilson appears to have a very slight limp in her arrival video to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It’s only a matter of time before we discover how the ankle injury affects her play.

6:10 p.m. — Clark and former Iowa teammate Martin reunited during warm ups, and as Clark walked away she turned to Martin and said “When you get in come guard me.” Looks like we might be in for some Hawkeye-on-Hawkeye crime tonight.

5:55 p.m. — Although Wilson was not included on the Aces injury report for tonight’s game, it was still undetermined whether she would see the court. However, head coach Becky Hammon confirmed that the center will be good to go tonight though her minutes will be monitored.

5:45 p.m. — Both Wilson and Clark are on the brink of historic milestones tonight. The rookie guard needs 11 assists and the two-time MVP needs 11 points for each to become the single-season leaders in their respective stat categories. Keep an eye on both of their performances throughout the game.
