Jalen Hurts has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts in recent weeks, collecting 22 touchdowns (12 passing, 10 rushing) to help the Eagles surge up the NFC standings.

On Thursday, he and his Philadelphia teammates faced their biggest test: a matchup against the Commanders for first place in the NFC East.

Hurts endured a challenging opening 30 minutes in the City of Brotherly Love, struggling to pick up much of anything against an inspired Washington defensive front. His difficulties were laid bare toward the end of the second quarter when he appeared to take a shot to the head. Here’s what you need to know.

Jalen Hurts injury update

Hurts was taken into the blue medical tent toward the end of the first half of Thursday’s game.

On third-and-goal, Hurts attempted to evade a crush of Commanders defenders. While finding space to deliver a throw into the end zone, Hurts was flattened, with his head hitting the ground under the force of two Washington rushers. He got up slowly and walked to the sideline as Philadelphia’s kick team strutted onto the field.

As the Commanders attempted to string together a last-minute drive of their own, Hurts was escorted into the medical tent, where he was tended to by an “independent neurotrauma specialist,” per Prime Video’s Kaylee Hartung.

Earlier in the half, Hurts appeared to hit his head on the turf after being collected in a Frankie Luvu sack.
