It turns out Caitlin Clark is human, after all.

Fans lined up in droves to see Clark face Indiana on Thursday night, and in the end, the crowd at Assembly Hall was a difference-maker as Iowa suffered its largest loss of the season. The Hoosiers pulled away in the second half, cruising to an 86-69 victory over the Hawkeyes.

While Clark filled the stat sheet with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists, it certainly wasn’t the game she was hoping for as she pursues Pete Maravich’s NCAA scoring record. The senior shot just 8-of-26 from the field, her most inefficient game since November, and that figure includes a 3-of-16 mark from 3-point range.

Clark did a nice job of getting to the basket early on, but Indiana adjusted and held her to just 11 points over the final three quarters. Forced to shoot from long-range with Iowa trailing, the threes simply did not fall for Clark as Iowa struggled to wrestle momentum away from the Hoosiers in a raucous environment.

Indiana’s defense had a terrific night all-around, as Iowa shot 38.8 percent as a team, but the Hoosiers’ offense also impressed with 25 points from Sara Scalia and 24 from Mackenzie Holmes.

Scoring 24 points might be a great night for any other player, but for Clark, it represents her second-lowest scoring output of the season. It was still enough to bring her closer to Maravich’s record, as she now trails by 75 points with three regular-season games remaining and the Big Ten Tournament to follow.

9:46 p.m. — This one is all Indiana as the Hoosiers lead 83-68 with under 90 seconds remaining. Clark is just 8-of-26 from the field in one of her most inefficient performances of the season.

9:45 p.m. — Iowa trails by 10 with 2:26 remaining, but Clark is one assist away from a triple-double.

9:35 p.m. — It has not been Clark’s night from 3-point range, where she’s now 3-of-15. She misses another pair of threes and is at risk of falling short of 30 points for only the second time in her last 10 games.

9:30 p.m. — Indiana has the lead back up to 15 with seven minutes to play. Mackenzie Holmes is up to 18 points and 9 rebounds as the Hoosiers continue to do a nice job of limiting Clark’s shot attempts.

End of third quarter: Indiana 62, Iowa 54

9:25 p.m. — Clark ends the quarter with a turnover, but no damage is done as Iowa cuts into the Indiana lead and has this game manageable entering the fourth quarter. The Hawkeyes closed on a 12-3 run, which included six points from Addison O’Grady.

9:23 p.m. — Clark has a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She’s three assists away from a triple-double.

9:05 p.m. — Clark is now 6-of-15 on the night after a missed layup as Iowa’s deficit increases to 14. The Hawkeyes need a run pretty soon to keep this game within reach.

End of first half: Indiana 44, Iowa 33

8:50 p.m. — Clark misses a pair of threes in the closing 90 seconds of the half as the Hawkeyes start to play catch-up. Indiana leads by 11 at the half, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc compared to just 21.4 percent for Iowa.

8:44 p.m. — Clark makes one of two free throws. The crowd at Assembly Hall believes it’s in her head, despite a 17-point half so far. The Hawkeyes have just 11 points outside of Clark and trail by 11.

8:42 p.m. — Indiana is out to a double-digit lead after Sydney Parrish is fouled beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Scalia and Mackenzie Holmes are into double figures for Indiana. 37-27, Hoosiers.

8:35 p.m. — Both offenses have slowed through the first five minutes of the second quarter… A layup by Hannah Stuelke breaks a nearly 3-minute scoring drought for the Hawkeyes, but Iowa’s defense has kept the game within a possession.

8:30 p.m. — Clark uncharacteristically misses two free throws but follows it up with a three to trim Indiana’s lead back to three. She’s up to 16 points.

End of first quarter: Indiana 23, Iowa 22

8:23 p.m. — Clark drills a pair of free throws before the end of the quarter, bringing her to 13 points through 10 minutes. The crowd thought it should’ve been an offensive foul there… She’s on pace to score 52, but Indiana takes a 1-point lead into the second quarter on a last-second putback by Lexus Bargesser.

8:20 p.m. — Clark has missed her last couple of 3-point tries, but she’s done well getting to the basket and is up to 11 points with over a minute left in the first.

8:00 p.m. — Iowa and Indiana are just about to get their top-15 matchup underway at Assembly Hall. Clark has double-doubled in each of her last six games and has scored 30+ points in eight of her last nine.

7:40 p.m. — A local celebrity is in Bloomington for the matchup: Victor Oladipo.

7:16 p.m. — Clark torched Indiana with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists when the Hawkeyes last played Indiana. Playing on the road is a different challenge, but Clark has met the moment just about everywhere this season.

6:15 p.m. — There was a long, long line outside Assembly Hall more than two hours before tip-off.
