The reviews from this month display the prowess of several up-and-coming soloists. Pianist Su Yeon Kim (pictured) issued a wonderful debut on the Steinway & Sons label with a recital of music by Mozart and Yunchan Lim’s Gold Medal performance from the 2022 Van Cliburn Competition delivers brilliant performances of Liszt’s Études d’exécution transcendante. Popular veterans made an impact as well, as Hilary Hahn tackled Eugène Ysaÿe’s Solo Violin Sonatas, Op. 27, and Kenneth Hamilton released the second volume in his Liszt survey. Those interested in less intimate music will also find several inviting releases, from a historical recording of Wagner’s Parsifal to the juxtaposition of Renaissance music with that of the minimalist and post-minimalist schools on What Remains by the Dudok Quartet.
