Not only are the Colorado Buffaloes in the College Football Playoff and Big 12 title conversation, but their star wide receiver and future NFL draft pick, Travis Hunter, is in contention for the Heisman Trophy.

According to CBS Sports analyst Tom Fornelli, the Buffaloes are on the doorstep of becoming the hottest talking point in college football.

“Oh, I think Travis Hunter has a great chance to win the Heisman, because when you look at the award at its core, it’s meant to go to the best player in college football,” Fornelli said. “And it’s hard to argue that Travis Hunter isn’t the best player in college football because while he doesn’t have the superlative stats that an Ashton Jeanty has with his rushing total, Travis Hunter is one of the best wide receivers in the country and one of the best defensive backs in the country.”

Travis Hunter has an outside shot to cap off a historic season

Fornelli added the difficulty of being a two-way player during the NIL-crazed, star-driven era of college football is rare, but he said Hunter is proving it can be done.

“That’s very hard to do,” Fornelli said. “So, I think talent-wise, he’s spectacular. And if you look at these situations with how these votes go, we just talked about Colorado’s ability to win the Big 12 and get to the playoff – typically, to win a Heisman particularly in the playoff era, you have to be on a team that is in the playoff picture. So, if you get the story of Travis Hunter being a two-way superstar on a Colorado team that wins the Big 12 unexpectedly and gets to the College Football Playoff when nobody had them doing that before the season began, I think he will run away with the Heisman votings and win in a landslide.”

Fornelli went as far to say that he will win the Heisman “no doubt” if Colorado wins the Big 12.

Colorado will likely have to win out to do just that, but it is there for the taking.
