Going undefeated is not an easy task, but in the last 10 seasons (not including the season played during the pandemic) at least one has:

  • Florida State was the only team to go undefeated during the 2014 season.
  • Two teams finished the regular season undefeated in 2012 (Notre Dame and Ohio State), 2015 (Clemson and Iowa), 2016 (Western Michigan and Alabama), 2017 (UCF and Wisconsin), and 2021 (Cincinnati and Georgia).
  • Three teams went undefeated in 2013 (Northern Illinois, Florida State and Ohio State), 2018 (Clemson, Alabama and UCF), and 2022 (Georgia, TCU and Michigan).
  • Four teams finished the 2019 regular season without a loss: Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Ohio State.

CFB undefeated odds: Challenging games ahead for several teams

An easy schedule can help a team get off to an undefeated start. But at this point in the year, most teams have played at least one or two tough opponents. If not, they likely will in the near future.

Of the 10 teams FanDuel has odds listed for, here are their remaining opponents heading into Week 8:

  • Air Force: @ Navy, @ Colorado State, Army, @ Hawaii, UNLV, @ Boise State
  • Liberty: Middle Tennessee State, @ Western Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Massachusetts, @ UTEP
  • Washington: Arizona State, @ Stanford, @ USC, Utah, @ Oregon State, Washington State
  • Ohio State: Penn State, @ Wisconsin, @Rutgers, Michigan State, Minnesota, @ Michigan
  • Penn State: @ Ohio State, Indiana, @ Maryland, Michigan, Rutgers, @ Michigan State
  • North Carolina: Virginia, @ Georgia Tech, Campbell, Duke, @ Clemson, @ North Carolina State
  • James Madison: @ Marshall, Old Dominion, @ Georgia State, UConn, Appalachian State, @ Coastal Carolina

Bets to consider

  • Air Force +220: the Falcons have the No. 1 run game in the nation and a solid defense. With their schedule, they could run the table.
  • Liberty +320: Western Kentucky is their most challenging game left on their schedule, but the Flames will probably be favored.
  • James Madison +430: Wait and see how they play against a solid Marshall team this weekend. If they win, consider taking a flyer on the Dukes.
  • North Carolina +450: The Tar Heels have a couple of tough games still to come, but they have one of the better offenses in the country and a solid defense.

Washington could run the table, but they have four tough games on deck (@ USC, Utah, @ Oregon State and Washington State). Ohio State or Michigan will knock Penn State from the ranks of the undefeated. Ohio State is not a bad choice, but they will probably be underdogs against Michigan this year.
