For the first time since the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix, Formula One returns to Nevada this upcoming weekend for the inaugural 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen enters the weekend as the bookmakers’ favourite to win the event, after claiming his third World Drivers’ Championship title already this season as he and his team continue to dominate the sport.
So far this year, the Dutchman has claimed 17 race wins — the most ever in a single season — and will be looking to add another track to his winning list this time around.

But the last few races have seen the chasing pack close in on him ever so slightly, especially through McLaren’s Lando Norris who claimed P2 in São Paulo last time out and nearly overtook Verstappen in the early stages of the Grand Prix.
He remains the closest challenger and a new circuit should see the gap between the field close substantially given that no driver has any prior experience of racing here. That’s something that has been particularly highlighted by Verstappen himself, who said to media after his last win when asked about this race in Las Vegas, “there’s still a lot to do…I still need to go on the simulator. I still don’t even know the track, to be honest.”
As well as Norris, Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will likely have a strong weekend as their car is suited to circuits like this, whilst McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also remains in strong form. Veteran pair Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso could also challenge here as both have improved race results in recent weeks.

F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023: Best bet
- Pick: Both Aston Martin drivers in the top ten
- Odds: +135 (DraftKings)
Last time out in Brazil, Aston Martin made great strides as Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished P3 and P5 respectively, as the British constructor claimed a huge amount of points in the fight against McLaren.
That was their highest finish in seven races and Stroll’s second-best result all season long as Aston finally got back to grips with their car.
This race in Las Vegas will test their cars again in a differing manner though, with the layout looking dissimilar to Interlagos. But with their pace looking very strong last weekend, they seem a good pick to have both drivers in the top ten at +135 with DraftKings in Sin City.
F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023: Prop bet
- Pick: Winning margin between 5 and 10 seconds
- Odds: +330 (DraftKings)
Although Verstappen has run away from the rest of the field a number of times this season by well over 10 seconds, given this is a new track and he’s admitted to have struggled on the simulator so far, this race should be a closer finish than usual.
Add to that the fact that a number of teams have grown stronger in recent races, especially McLaren through the exploits of Lando Norris who has finished on the podium in five of the last six Grand Prix races, and backing the winning margin to be between five and ten seconds at +330 with DraftKings could be tempting.
In terms of other gap markets, DraftKings are offering over 10 seconds at -110 and under 5 seconds is +175.
F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023: Prop bet
- Pick: Sergio Perez to finish on the podium
- Odds: +250 (DraftKings)
Despite winning two of the opening five races of the 2023 season, it’s been tricky for Red Bull’s Sergio Perez ever since, who has largely underperformed overall.
Up against Verstappen the Mexican has really struggled, though in Brazil last time out he did improve his form substantially.
Although he eventually lost out on a podium spot to Fernando Alonso by a tiny margin due to a minor last lap mistake, it was evident that Perez was back to his old form somewhat, making a number of overtakes on his way to a P4 finish.
We’re expecting him to arrive in Las Vegas full of confidence as a result and with no driver holding an advantage at this new track, he could pull a surprise on Sunday.
