Two teams with postseason plans in their future — the Fever and Aces — tip off tonight in Indianapolis in the first of two matchups between them this week.
Rookie of the Year favorite Caitlin Clark will reunite with former Iowa teammate Kate Martin as both squads fight for playoff seeding.
Entering the game in sixth place overall, Indiana is coming off a gutsy overtime win at home against the Dream. Aliyah Boston scored a career-high 30 points in the contest along with 13 rebounds, and Clark notched a 26-point, 12-assist double-double in her 10th consecutive game of 19 points or more. Lexie Hull is also shooting an incredible 67.6% from three since returning from the All-Star break, providing a much-needed boost to the Fever’s offense.
Just two places above Indiana in the standings, the defending champion Aces sustained a close loss Sunday to the Liberty without leading MVP candidate A’ja Wilson. The center is dealing with a leg injury but the team did not report any injuries ahead of tonight’s game, indicating she may return. In Wilson’s absence, Kelsey Plum led all scorers against New York with 25 points despite the 75-71 loss. Additionally, Las Vegas signed center Queen Egbo on Monday to a 7-day contract in case Wilson’s injury keeps her sidelined for longer than expected.

6:40 p.m. — BetMGM has the Aces as 4.5-point favorites over the Fever. Las Vegas has won both matchups this season by 19 points each, dominating Indiana so far. There are two opportunities this week for Clark & Co. to even the score before the postseason.
6:20 p.m. — While she’s already on the court warming up, some are commenting that Wilson appears to have a very slight limp in her arrival video to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It’s only a matter of time before we discover how the ankle injury affects her play.
A night for the history books 🌟

6:10 p.m. — Clark and former Iowa teammate Martin reunited during warm ups, and as Clark walked away she turned to Martin and said “When you get in come guard me.” Looks like we might be in for some Hawkeye-on-Hawkeye crime tonight.

5:55 p.m. — Although Wilson was not included on the Aces injury report for tonight’s game, it was still undetermined whether she would see the court. However, head coach Becky Hammon confirmed that the center will be good to go tonight though her minutes will be monitored.
Becky Hammon was just asked if A’ja Wilson is on a minutes restriction:
“‘l’ll be watching her,” Hammon said. “But she says she’s good.”
Sounds like A’ja is a go tonight in Indiana.

5:45 p.m. — Both Wilson and Clark are on the brink of historic milestones tonight. The rookie guard needs 11 assists and the two-time MVP needs 11 points for each to become the single-season leaders in their respective stat categories. Keep an eye on both of their performances throughout the game.
