The 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is the first time with an expanded 32-team field with 64 matches on the schedule.

The tournament kicked off on July 20, 2023 in Auckland, New Zealand. The final takes place on August 20 in Sydney, Australia.

Co-hosts Australia and New Zealand will split the action between both nations in the coming weeks with the defending champions USA based in the latter.

Women’s World Cup 2023 tournament format

The top two teams from each group (A-H) will advance to the knockout stages with the Round of 16 running on to the final.

During the group stage, three points will be awarded for a win, one for a draw, and zero for a defeat. The two teams with the greatest number of points in each group will qualify for the knockout stage.

If teams are level on points, overall goal difference is the first tiebreaker, followed by total goals scored, if necessary. The third tiebreaker is head-to-head record.

  • Round of 16: August 5-8
  • Quarterfinals: August 11-12
  • Semifinals: August 15-16
  • Third-place playoff: August 19
  • Final: August 20
