The Open Championship is one of the most revered events on the golf calendar. Colloquially referred to as the British Open, the international leg of the PGA Tour majors will be played at the Royal Liverpool Club in Hoylake, Merseyside, England. Cameron Smith is the defending winner from 2022.

Two of the first three majors this year have featured first-time American winners, with Scottie Scheffler taking the Masters and Wyndham Clark emerging victorious at the U.S. Open. Collin Morikawa in 2021 is the lone American to win The Open in the last four times it has been played, however, so we may have another change of pace this weekend.

The Open was first played in 1860, with Royal Liverpool being opened just nine years later in 1869. It is one of the more storied clubs in England, having celebrated its 150th birthday in 2019. The 7,218-yard course is a par-72 course, so that is the mark players will be striving for to start.

Also of note is that the Open Championship will have its purse raised to $16.5 million, including a prize of $3 million for the winner. Last year saw Smith take home $2.5 million of a $14 million purse.
