The San Francisco Giants did some buying and selling this year at the trade deadline. Almost a week later, they sit just 4 1/2 games back of the final National League Wild Card spot.

They ultimately held onto their biggest piece, left-hander Blake Snell. As it turns out, it was the right choice, as Snell threw a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.

On Monday, Snell appeared on Foul Territory and discussed the trade rumors swirling around him.

“They didn’t say nothing,” Snell said. “I was happy where I’m at, so I never really looked forward to what could be. I was like ‘This is where I’m at. I’m going to stay grounded right here.’ But I’m happy. Getting traded is not a fun thing.”

Snell seems grateful that he ultimately stayed put in San Francisco. He of course can attest to what it’s like to be traded. Prior to the 2021 season, he was traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the San Diego Padres.

Being traded during the season is a different scenario entirely, and Snell seems happy to have avoided that fate. The Giants are also still in the mix for a playoff spot, so it wouldn’t have made sense for San Francisco to trade away their ace.

San Francisco currently owns a 56-57 record. They won two out of three games against the Reds at Great American Ballpark over the weekend and have also gone 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Snell may ultimately opt out of the final year of his deal with San Francisco. But for now, he’s staying put.
