Three years and plenty of heartache later, Sha’Carri Richardson is again on the cusp of an Olympic bid.

The 24-year old rose to prominence as an NCAA champion in the 100m dash, becoming one of LSU’s greatest sprinters in the process. She carried that momentum to a place on Team USA for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, only to see the opportunity vanish after she was suspended for a positive marijuana test in the lead-up to the Summer Games.

Richardson was one of the world’s best sprinters when she was handed the punishment. She has maintained that status in the years since, capturing the title of world’s fastest woman after winning gold in the 100m and 4x100m relays at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

A solid showing at this year’s Olympics would add to Richardson’s comeback story while opening her up to legions of new fans.

Before all that, though, she must qualify for the Big Dance. Here’s what you need to know about Richardson’s participation in the 2024 U.S. Olympic track and field trials.

Is Sha’Carri Richardson running tonight?

Richardson won’t run on Sunday night, after winning the 100-meter on Saturday and securing her spot in Paris.

While Richardson’s spot is secure, her qualifying run isn’t done yet. She’s still set to run the women’s 200-meter competitions, which don’t start until the first round on Thursday.

Which races will Sha’Carri Richardson run at the Olympics?

Richardson clinched a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics in the 100m. She’s still set to compete in the 200m dash at the U.S. qualifying competition.

If she earns a top-three finish in the 200m dash — assuming she meets the Olympic standard — she’ll automatically earn a spot in that race come Paris.
