The 2024 Formula One season is well and truly underway, with last year’s champion Max Verstappen picking up where he left off in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to record two dominant victories at an absolute canter.
Winning both his opening two races by over 10 seconds, the flying Dutchman’s title defence has begun in a fashion that many — particularly his 19 competing drivers — will have both expected and feared. However, after beating Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez by 13.643 seconds at Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Verstappen will have to wait two weeks before he gets the chance to win his next race.
That’s because the season’s first weekend off is currently allowing the chasing pack to take stock of the first two races, and gain some valuable preparation time in their quest to hunt Verstappen down. Red Bull’s all-conquering campaign is halted for this week, but the remaining 22 races of the season will come thick and fast after getting back underway in a few days’ time.
If you’re keen to keep tabs on all the F1 action every single weekend — don’t fret, The Sporting News has all the info you’ll need about the next race of the season in Australia and how to watch or catch up from across the world.
Is there a Formula 1 race on today?
No, there isn’t. After two races in the Middle East to open up the 2024 season, there’s a two-week break in the action prior to the third event of the campaign — which will see the 20 drivers head south of the Equator to Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, March 24.
Having hosted international, elite motorsporting competition in the country since all the way back in 1928, the Australian Grand Prix was initially held in Adelaide when it was added to the Formula One World Championship in 1985, before moving to its current Melbourne base in 1996.
When is next Formula 1 race?
After a week off from the high-octane F1 action, it soon returns in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix. After the first two meetings of the campaign were both held on Saturdays, this marks the first racing Sunday of the calendar.
Albert Park Circuit’s 27th hosting of the event gets underway on Thursday, March 21, with two days of practice sessions prior to qualifying on Saturday, March 23 and the race proper on Sunday, March 24, which will begin at 3 p.m. local time (AEDT).
