An AFC East rivalry matchup is set to kick off Week 3 of the NFL season.
The Patriots will pay a visit to the Jets on “Thursday Night Football” this week, with both teams standing at 1-1 through early action.
While New York enters the game favorited to win its second-straight contest, the Patriots have established themselves as a tougher opponent to beat than some expected entering the season. Led by veteran QB Jacoby Brissett and RB Rhamondre Stevenson, New England has shown toughness through two games under new head coach Jerod Mayo.
After the team parted ways with legendary coach Bill Belichick in the offseason, Mayo has guided New England to a 16-10 win over the Bengals in Week 1 and a 23-20 overtime loss to the Seahawks in Week 2.

On Thursday, the Patriots are aiming to contain a Jets offense that’s slowly figuring things out. We’ve finally gotten our first looks at QB Aaron Rodgers in action with New York, and through two games, Rodgers has 343 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
While its Week 1 loss to the defending NFC champion 49ers wasn’t an ideal way to open the season, New York bounced back with a 24-17 win over the Titans on Sunday. So far, the Jets have heavily relied on their multi-talented RB duo of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, who have each caught a touchdown pass from Rodgers.
Rodgers, 40, is still readjusting to the field after his season-ending injury in 2023, but the Jets enter Thursday with momentum on their side. On the other hand, New England will be looking to continue asserting itself as a serious playoff threat in the AFC despite being originally projected by many to finish in the bottom tier of the league.
