The hits keep on coming for the Vikings.

On the same day that Minnesota announced that rookie QB J.J. McCarthy would be out for the year with a torn meniscus, wide receiver Jordan Addison had to be carted off the practice field with an injury.

While McCarthy was not a guarantee to become the starting QB, Addison is expected to be a focal point in the Vikings’ offense. With star WR Justin Jefferson playing alongside him, Addison is in line to take another step forward in his second season in the NFL.

In 2023, the No. 23 overall pick from last year’s draft played in all 17 games for Minnesota, accumulating 911 receiving yards on 70 receptions and 10 touchdowns, which led the club. When Jefferson was injured during the season, took over as the teams’ top option at wide receiver. Only tight end T.J. Hockenson had more targets than Addison last year (127 to 108).

Here is more to know about Addison’s injury.

Jordan Addison injury update

Addison had to be carted off the practice field Wednesday in Minnesota after going up for a contested ball. The training staff helped the wide receiver as he hobbled off the field.

Once on the cart, his teammates, including Jefferson, came over to check on Addison, giving him high-fives as he was carted off the playing field.

It’s unclear what exactly the injury is. The Vikings were undergoing a joint practice with the Browns when Addison’s injury occurred.

Addison played very briefly in the Vikings preseason opener against the Raiders, a 24-23 win for Minnesota. The second-year WR brought in his lone target for a seven-yard catch.

Minnesota plays its second preseason game this weekend on Saturday, Aug. 17, against the Browns in Cleveland. That game is scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
