Gen. Eric Smith survived the combat zone but collapsed while on a run around the Capitol. A good Samaritan named Tim LaLonde, who had run an ultramarathon that morning and happened to be nearby, did CPR for 10 minutes before an ambulance arrived. In a TODAY exclusive, Craig Melvin was there when they reunited for the first time since the medical emergency.
