The 1992 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team, dubbed the “Dream Team,” is up there with 1980’s “Miracle on Ice” squad as the most famous U.S. teams in international competition. So it stands to reason their jerseys are some of the most coveted collectors’ items for sports fans.

Karl Malone certainly proved that theory when he auctioned off 12 Dream Team jerseys this week.

The most popular, unsurprisingly, was Michael Jordan’s game-worn jersey from the matchup against Lithuania, which sold for an incredible $3.03 million.

The rest of the jerseys still made a mint, but they didn’t stack up to Jordan’s total, netting $1.4 million between them.

Jordan’s sneakers also made a pretty penny, going for $420,000. While not exactly the jersey’s sale total, it’s still a solid number.

Jordan scored 21 points in 22 minutes in the semifinal game against Lithuania, a team-high. He also had four assists and three rebounds in the effort.

This isn’t even the most expensive piece of Jordan memorabilia sold in the past 12 months.

In September, Jordan had his 1998 Game 1 NBA Finals jersey sell for $10.091 million. In 2021, game-worn shoes from his rookie season went for $1.47 million.

Jordan will always be a Holy Grail for collectors, and that shows here. Any time rare items like this go on sale, Jordan will always be leading the pack in sales figures.
