MLB Draft tracker 2023: Live picks, results for Rounds 1-20 in baseball draft

About two months ago, the first overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft would have seemed like a given. Surely, there was no way the Pirates would take anyone besides LSU outfielder Dylan Crews, right?

But as the draft has neared, the rumor mill has been churning that Pittsburgh might be considering other options. In fact, it has seemed increasingly less likely that Crews will be the pick as his price tag has reportedly gone up.

Instead, fans can likely expect to hear one of Paul Skenes, Wyatt Langford or Max Clark called up as the first name selected in the 2023 MLB Draft, with Crews then headed either second to the Nationals or third to the Tigers.

And if there’s any uncertainty over the direction in which the Pirates are headed for the first overall pick, there will be plenty more intrigue left for the remainder of the draft, a class that has a clear top five players in talent but remains deep past the top five with a large wave of players who could all make a case to be selected early.

The only certainty is that over the course of the three-day draft, 614 amateur baseball players will hear their names called to begin their professional careers.
