It’s NBA trade deadline week and the rumors are heating up.
Unlike last season, when the Mavericks acquired Kyrie Irving and the Suns landed Kevin Durant, no superstars are likely to move at this year’s deadline. Still, there should be some key contributors and difference-makers available.
Hawks star Dejounte Murray and Bulls star DeMar DeRozan are two of the biggest names circling the market. Role players such as Raptors guard Bruce Brown Jr., Bulls guard Alex Caruso and Wizards guard Tyus Jones also are reportedly available.

Jazz have entered running for Raptors’ Bruce Brown Jr.

The Jazz are now “another team to consider as a strong possibility for Brown.”
Fischer reported that the Jazz and Raptors have discussed a framework that would send Brown to Utah for Canadian big man Kelly Olynyk and 3-and-D wing Ochai Agbaji. He added, “What draft capital could be a part of the conversation remains to be seen” and that the Raptors want a first-round pick for Brown.
Dejounte Murray ruled out vs. Celtics; Pelicans interested in Hawks guard

On the eve of the trade deadline, Murray was ruled out for the Hawks’ game against the Celtics with lower back tightness.
Ensuingly, Fischer reported that the Pelicans and Hawks have had conversations to bring Murray to New Orleans, but they aren’t “particularly close to a finish line.”
Timberwolves land Monte Morris from Pistons

The Timberwolves are acquiring Monte Morris from the Pistons for Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr. and one second-round pick (2030).
Minnesota was searching for backcourt depth and it found that in Morris, a seven-year veteran who averages 10.4 points and 4.0 assists for his career. Morris missed the first three months of the season with a quadricep strain but recently returned to action. He’ll serve as a backup to Mike Conley Jr., bringing playoff experience to the Timberwolves.
Celtics acquire Xavier Tillman from Grizzlies

Boston is acquiring Xavier Tillman from Memphis. In return, the Grizzlies are receiving future second-round picks via Atlanta (2027) and Dallas (2030).
Tillman, a 6-8 big man, is in his fourth NBA season. He started 13 of 34 games in which he appeared this season, posting averages of 6.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game.
Jazz trade Simone Fontecchio to Pistons

The Jazz are sending Simone Fontecchio to the Pistons for Kevin Knox, the draft rights to Gabriele Procida and a 2024 second-round pick via the Wizards.
Fontecchio started in 34 of the 50 games he appeared in with the Jazz this season, averaging 8.9 points on 39.1 percent shooting from 3. He’ll be a restricted free agent in the offseason and the Pistons made the trade to keep him a part of their long-term core.
Lakers believe they can acquire Donovan Mitchell in the offseason

The Lakers have been linked to several players ahead of the deadline but the team could stand pat due to a belief they have a chance to acquire Cavaliers All-Star Donovan Mitchell in the 2024 offseason.
Reiter’s report aligns with a January report from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin which states LA has “discussed internally the possibility of packaging three picks, along with players they already have on their books, to pursue a bona fide star,” like Mitchell or Atlanta’s Trae Young.
Knicks interested in Raptors’ Bruce Brown Jr.

The Knicks and Raptors already did business once this season when Toronto sent O.G. Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn to New York for R.J. Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and a second-round pick. The two franchises might not be done dealing.
The Knicks have spoken to the Raptors about Brown, with discussions “centered around Evan Fournier and draft compensation.”
Timberwolves eying guard depth

The Timberwolves are targeting backcourt help at the deadline and will be active in pursuit of players like the Wizards’ Tyus Jones, Pistons’ Monte Morris, Raptors’ Dennis Schroder and Hornets’ Kyle Lowry.
Bucks looking to add defensive help

The Bucks are looking to bolster their depth on the defensive side of the ball, but they have not been successful thus far. While Milwaukee has discussed a deal involving Portis for the Mavericks’ Grant Williams, the Bucks aren’t interested in a one-for-one swap.
The Bucks could pivot their attention to Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith. Brooklyn is looking for a future first-rounder in return for Smith, something Milwaukee does not have to offer.
Andrew Wiggins considered Warriors’ biggest trade chip

With the recent emergence of 21-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga — who is reportedly not available for trade — Wiggins was described as “the ultimate swing piece of the Warriors’ current build.”
The Mavericks and the Bucks are two teams who have been linked to the former No. 1 overall pick.
76ers targeting shooting in Buddy Hield, Bojan Bogdanovic

The 76ers are looking to be buyers at the trade deadline, especially in the wake of the Joel Embiid injury news.
Two names to monitor are Pacers sniper Hield and Pistons sharpshooter Bogdanovic, both of whom have contracts that can be matched by the expiring deals Philadelphia has on its roster, such as Marcus Morris Sr., Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington and Furkan Korkmaz.
Celtics eying Otto Porter Jr., Lonnie Walker IV

The Celtics are trying to bolster their bench with some help on the wing, but their only wiggle room comes from their $6.25 million traded player exception. That limits their options, but veteran forward Porter and athletic wing Walker are said to be two names to monitor for the team with the NBA’s best record.
Lakers won’t trade LeBron James at trade deadline
