The 2023 Women’s World Cup promises to be a spectacle unlike any other as the tournament prepares to commence in Australia and New Zealand.
With the field expanding to 32 teams for the first time in its history, top teams from around the globe have arrived to put their best players and top stars on full display to represent their country on the world’s biggest football stage.
The event is also the first World Cup across both men’s and women’s to be held across two different confederations, with Australia members of the Asian confederation (AFC) and New Zealand members of the Oceania confederation (OFC).
BetMGM in the United States claimed they expect this to be “the most bet on Women’s World Cup of all time” for them, and that is likely to be true globally, too.

Pre-tournament odds to win 2023 Women’s World Cup
The USA were strong favourites to win an unprecedented third World Cup in a row ahead of the tournament, with their odds falling to +225 just before kick off of the first match.
England, Spain and Germany were seen as the other teams most likely to challenge the USA for World Cup glory

Odds to win Women’s World Cup
There have been some interesting changes to the overall odds after six days of World Cup action; Spain are now seen as the second favourites to win the tournament, supplanting England who have dropped to third, whilst Brazil’s odds have also shortened after their opening match win over Panama.
Norway’s odds have increased considerably after their poor start to the tournament, whilst Australia’s odds fluctuate depending on the bookmaker, with some shortening their odds, whilst other’s feel they are less likely given the uncertainty surrounding Sam Kerr’s fitness.

USA the favorites to win 2023 Women’s World Cup
As two-time defending champions of the competition, it’s no surprise that the U.S. are favorites to win the Women’s World Cup.
However, they have stiff competition from other top nations, mostly from Europe. England, Spain, Germany and France are all considered heavy challengers to the U.S. throne, with the Lionesses given the biggest chance to spark a changing of the guard.
Vlatko Andonovski’s side must weather some significant injuries ahead of the tournament, with Mallory Swanson suffering a serious knee injury back in March, plus the absences of Becky Sauerbrunn, Catarina Macario and Christen Press.
Should the United States win, they would become the first team ever to win three World Cup titles in a row, on either the men’s or women’s side.
Australia and New Zealand get host boost
The host is often given a significant shot to the arm at these major tournaments, and it’s no different this time around for the Matildas of Australia and the Football Ferns of New Zealand. Both nations are given odds that place them higher than their FIFA ranking would suggest.
Australia, ranked 10th in the world, are now fifth-favorites according to the odds, though Sam Kerr’s continuing absence may change those odds as we head towards the knockout stages.. New Zealand, who are 26th in the world according to FIFA (which makes them the 21st-best team in the field), don’t get nearly the same bump, but they are hovering around 18th position according to the odds.
Canada, China longshots to win Women’s World Cup
Two teams with international pedigree are surprisingly low on the list, as Canada and China are not expected to mount a serious challenge for the FIFA crown.
Canada’s standing is the most surprising of the two, as they are ranked seventh in the world by FIFA and are coming off a gold medal at the most recent Summer Olympics just two years ago. Yet they sit as just 11th-favorites to win, hovering around 33/1 odds in most sports books.
Meanwhile, China, ranked 14th in the world by FIFA and who have stretched into the knockout round on multiple occasions, including a runner-up result in 1999, are not given a sniff of the podium by the odds makers. They sat in 17th position pre-tournament, and slipped further to 20th according to the books, which means they may even struggle to escape a group which also boasts England, Denmark and Haiti.
