In October, Foster (21-2, 12 KOs) took on Mexican warrior Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez in Cancun. Way behind on two of the three scorecards, Foster rallied to score a dramatic 12th-round stoppage in a classic encounter. The Sporting News named the bout its 2023 Fight of the Year.

Shortly thereafter, the WBC champ signed a promotional deal with Top Rank and he’s eager to get back in the ring.

“We’ve been calling out Nova for years. He knows it. His excuse was that my name wasn’t big enough. Funny how the tables turn. I’m ready, and I’m familiar with his style,” said Foster.

“I did everything in the gym. We are prepared. Come Friday night, we will dominate and put on a show.”

Nova (23-1, 16 KOs) has mixed at the elite level once before, losing by stoppage to the excellent Robeisy Ramirez in June 2022. However, the Puerto Rican-born contender bounced back with solid wins over Adam Lopez (UD 10) and Jonathan Romero (KO 3) last year to secure this title opportunity.

“Fighting for a world title is a dream come true,” said Nova. “I can’t let this opportunity slip by. I’ve wanted this for so long. Now I have this opportunity, so I’m super excited and super motivated.

“I like to take control of things in my career. It’s the main reason I picked boxing. It’s an individual sport. I can be in control.”

The Sporting News will post results from the undercard and provide a full report on the main event.
