A new cycle of the World Test Championship began on June 16 with reigning champions Australia taking on rivals England in the first Test match of the Ashes 2023.

WTC 2023 finalists India began their journey in the ongoing cycle with a two-match Test series against West Indies.

Till date two editions of the WTC has been held. While New Zealand won in the maiden season in the cycle of 2019 to 2021 beating India in the final, Australia bagged the title in the second cycle of 2021-23. Once again it was India who finished runners-up.

What is the format of the World Test Championship 2023-25

The competition will be played over a span of two years with the final being held in 2025. A total of 68 matches will be over 27 series in the league stage and finally the top two teams in the points table will qualify for the final.

Each participant will play a minimum of 12 Test matches with the maximum limit being 22. They will play a maximum of six series with three at home and three away.
