The Los Angeles Rams play a team coming off a bye as a visitor for the second consecutive week. The Rams take on the Dallas Cowboys in an early Sunday afternoon NFL matchup in NFL Week 8.
The Cowboys opened as a 6-point favorite early this week, and the line held relatively steady during early wagering. The best current point spread for Dallas bettors is , while Rams backers can grab and on the moneyline.
Back in May, when the Westgate SuperBook first posted odds for this encounter, Dallas was a 7.5-point choice with an O/U total of 43.5. The current total is .
On the ATS chart, the Rams (3-4 straight up) are 4-2-1 against the spread this season, while Dallas has a 4-2 SU/ATS record.
As for over/under records, LA has gone under in five of its seven games. Dallas is 3-3.
Rams vs. Cowboys odds: point spread, moneyline, total
Here’s the latest NFL betting odds for Rams vs. Cowboys:
In the Rams’ last game, they also faced a team off a bye in a 24-17 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were 3.5-point underdogs.
However, clubs coming off a bye this season are only 2-4 ATS, and last year were just 14-12. As previously stated, Pittsburgh has one of the two ATS victories in 2023. The other was earned by Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys when they won a 20-17 game against the Chargers in LA two weeks ago as a 1.5-point favorite.
Since Week 2, when scores went “over” the estimated total in 13 of 16 games, the “under” has dominated. Entering Week 8, bettors taking the under have cashed in 59 times in 91 games (.648).
Rams vs. Steelers injury report
Here is the current injury report for the Rams vs. Cowboys.
The Rams will again go without their leading rusher, Kyren Williams, who missed last week’s game and is on injured reserve.
For Dallas, the most concern is the status of standout left tackle Tyron Smith, who popped up on the injury report Thursday.
Rams betting news
QB Matt Stafford, who guided LA to the Super Bowl two seasons ago, has had a roller-coast type season for the Rams. The Rams stand sixth in the league in yards per game. Dallas’ defense ranks fifth, setting up a heavyweight fight.
Stafford is second in the league with 31 pass completions of 20-plus yards, but he’s completed only 59.8 percent of his throws. He’s completed over 64 percent each year in his previous eight seasons. Last week, he was only 14-for-29.
As for the running game, Royce Freeman and Darrell Henderson filled in for Williams in Week 7 by combining for 127 yards on an average of 4.3 yards a carry. Until then, neither had a single carry this season.
The Rams also have a new place-kicker in Lucas Havrisik. He was acquired off Cleveland’s practice squad this week. He replaces Brett Maher, who got the heave-ho after missing two field goal tries and an extra point vs. Pittsburgh.
Cowboys betting news
The Cowboys are looking to extend their home win streak to 11 games.
Meanwhile, bettors who routinely wager on the Cowboys have struck it rich. Since the McCarthy era opened with eight straight ATS losses in 2020, the Cowboys have the second-best ATS mark in the league at 34-18, only trailing Detroit.
Last season, in a meeting between the teams, Dallas was a 22-10 winner over the Rams in LA as a 5.5-point underdog. That was despite Dallas starting backup QB Cooper Rush for the injured Dak Prescott.
How’s this for irony?
In that 2022 meeting, Maher, the guy just fired by the Rams, was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts for the Cowboys. But he was jettisoned in the offseason, too, after missing four straight extra-point attempts in a playoff victory over Tampa Bay.

Rams vs. Cowboys predictions
The Rams will not only be missing their top running back but also have injury issues along the right side of the offensive line. Right tackle Rob Havenstein is questionable, and guard Joe Noteboom is dealing with a groin injury that has kept him out of the lineup for the past three weeks.
Information: NFL futures odds
With the short-handed running game likely to struggle, Stafford might be unable to find the time in the pocket to hunt down star WR Cooper Kupp and the league’s top receiver in Puka Nacau. Things will get especially sticky if a reworked offensive line can’t contain all-world pass rusher Micah Parsons.
The Rams’ pass rush ranks 29th in the NFL with only 12 sacks produced. With Prescott expected to face a less-than-potent pass rush, he should have more time to go deep with fleet-footed receiver CeeDee Lamb and work play-action with tackle-busting running back Tony Pollard.
Prediction: Cowboys and over 45.5.
