The Boston Red Sox have been hot over the last few weeks, winning nearly 70% of their games since June 9 and climbing up into the third wild-card spot.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora has absolutely gotten the most out of a roster filled with young, unproven talent despite injuries to some of their best players, including first baseman Triston Casas.
A few weeks back, Cora spoke on the opportunity the Red Sox had in front of them, and now he’s doubling down.
“We talked about being greedy a few weeks ago, we saw a window, but I think the window is getting bigger. It’s actually a door,” Cora said after Tuesday’s win over the Oakland Athletics (via. The Athletic). “We can actually accomplish this. We’re going to keep looking up there and keep playing good baseball and let’s see where it takes us.”
With Casas expected back in the coming weeks, and reliever Liam Hendricks on the cusp of a return as well, Boston’s roster will get a boost. And, if they decide to add at the trade deadline, things could get interesting in the wild-card race and a talented division battle.
