Alexander Volkanovski has had a target on his back since winning the UFC featherweight title in 2019. “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.” However, Volkanovski is always cool, calm, and collected in the octagon. His skills and willpower will get tested when he defends the title against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 on February 17.

UFC 298 is in the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The event airs on ESPN+ PPV in the U.S.

Volkanovski is 13-2 with the UFC since joining the promotion in 2016. He beat Max Holloway three times, winning featherweight gold in the first clash. The Aussie has successfully defended the belt five times. He has attempted to hold lightweight gold, failing twice. Coming off a knockout loss and after years of taking some damage, the 35-year-old looks to hold onto his title while proving detractors wrong.

“All these narratives, I love it,” Volkanovski said via MMA Junkie. “Everyone knows I thrive in these moments. When people doubt me, it’s the best.”

Topuria joined the UFC in 2020 and is 6-0 for the promotion. In his last contest in June, “El Matador” beat Josh Emmett via unanimous decision. The Spanish fighter has attempted to play mind games by stealing Volkanovski’s title. Will it pay off, or did he jinx himself?

The Sporting News will provide results from the entire UFC 298 card. Check it out below!
