For the second consecutive year, it will be a West vs. Caribbean matchup to decide a Little League World Series champion.

California meets Curacao in the 2023 championship game today as this year’s LLWS is set to wrap up action from Williamsport.

Louis Lappe nearly single-handedly helped California win the U.S. bracket, recording five RBIs and throwing 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball against Texas in the United States final on Saturday. Lappe hit his fourth home run of the tournament, while his teammate Brody Brooks launched his third for the El Segundo Little League squad.

Curacao received a dominant pitching effort from Helmir Helmijr in the international final, blanking Chinese Taipei 2-0. Helmijr gave up just a single hit and no runs to help the Pabao Little League team get back to the LLWS championship, where it lost to Hawaii in 2022.

A team from California has not won the Little League World Series since the squad from Huntington Beach won the title in 2011. Meanwhile, Curacao has not had a Little League champion since 2004.
