No. 4 Duke will look to snap out of its end-of-season funk when it takes on No. 13 Vermont, a program hungry for an NCAA Tournament victory, in an intriguing first-round matchup.

After a strong regular season in which they fell just shy of an ACC title, the Blue Devils enter the NCAA Tournament on a disappointing two-game losing streak. On the heels of no-showing a pivotal regular season finale at home against North Carolina, Duke bowed out in its first game in the ACC Tournament, losing to NC State.

Still, Duke (24-8) remains a dangerous bunch. The offense runs through the middle, with Kyle Filipowski averaging a team-high 17.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. In the backcourt, the Blue Devils will need senior guard Jeremy Roach to round into his typical form. Roach, who averages 14 points per game, shot just 4-of-18 in Duke’s last two losses.

The Catamounts (28-6) have become an NCAA Tournament staple, dancing for the fifth time in the last eight seasons after once again winning the America East championship. Vermont boasts a balanced attack, spearheaded by three guards: TJ Long, Shamir Bogues and Aaron Deloney.

Is this the year that Vermont gets over the hump? The Catamounts are upset-minded, but despite their regular season success, they have not won a tournament game since a First Four victory in 2012.
