One of two highly anticipated Monday Elite Eight matchups, Paige Bueckers’ UConn and Juju Watkins’ USC are set to meet in Portland for a spot in the Final Four.
Watkins was everywhere for the Trojans against Baylor in the Sweet 16, leading all scorers with 30 points. Rayah Marshall also notched a double-double in the 74-70 contest, putting up 11 points and an impressive 16 rebounds.
For the Huskies, Bueckers also lead all scorers with 24 points against Duke followed by a 12-point, seven-rebound performance from Aaliyah Edwards. Despite shooting under 20 percent from three, UConn caused 23 turnovers in the Sweet 16 matchup to punch its ticket to the Elite Eight.
USC and UConn have met twice before, UConn leading the series 2-0. The last time they played was December 2003, with the Huskies coming out on top narrowly, 72-69.
Diana Taurasi was a member of that top-ranked UConn squad and hit two crucial threes in the final three minutes of the game to push the Huskies over the edge.
