Ivy League regular season champion Princeton is set to take on the Mountain West’s UNLV in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. With 19 and 24 wins respectively, both the Rebels and Tigers narrowly missed out on the NCAA Tournament but are still seeking victory in March.
Princeton head coach Mitch Henderson was named Ivy League Coach of the Year following their four-loss regular season. Unfortunately they came crashing down to earth when they were upset in the conference tournament by Brown, 90-81.
The Rebels ended the season on a 6-1 run, excluding a Mountain West tournament quarterfinal exit in a three-point overtime loss to San Diego State.
The winner of this contest will face either Providence or Boston college in the second round.
Princeton’s roster was one of the most awarded in the Ivy League, with sophomore Caden Pierce being named the 2023-24 Ivy League Player of the Year. The regular season title is the Tigers’ third straight. Pierce and Xaivian Lee earned first team honors and Matt Allocco earned second team honors.
The Rebels’ guard Dedan Thomas Jr. was recognized as Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the conference second team. Keylan Boone earned a spot on the third team while Luis Rodriguez was named to the defensive team.
