This year, the New England Patriots selected two quarterbacks in the NFL draft, making it the third and fourth time in the last four drafts that they’ve taken at least one player at the position.

With Drake Maye primed to take over as the starter at some point, we’ve decided to look back at the Patriots’ history with their drafted quarterbacks and see how they’ve done in their first season.

Obviously, the game has changed a lot since the franchise was established in 1960, but it’s always important to remember the history.

In total, New England has drafted 28 quarterbacks in the history of their organization. However, so far, only nine have started at least one game for the team. Here’s how they did:

Butch Songin (1960 – Round 19, Pick No. 247)

Songin started 12 games in 1960, leading the team to a 4-8 record. He completed 47.7% of his passes for 2,476 yards, 22 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Jim Plunkett (1971 – Round 1, Pick No. 1)

Plunkett started 14 games in 1971, leading the team to a 6-8 record. He completed 48.2% of his passes for 2,158 yards, 19 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Steve Grogan (1975 – Round 5, Pick No. 116)

Grogan started seven games in 1975, leading the team to a 1-6 record. He completed 50.7% of his passes for 1,976 yards, 11 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

Tony Eason (1983 – Round 1, Pick No. 15)

Eason started four games in 1983, leading the team to a 2-2 record. He completed 48.4% of his passes for 557 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.

Tom Hodson (1990 – Round 3, Pick No. 59)

Hodson started six games in 1990, leading the team to an 0-6 record. He completed 54.5% of his passes for 968 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

Drew Bledsoe (1993 – Round 1, Pick No. 1)

Bledsoe started 12 games in 1993, leading the team to a 5-7 record. He completed 49.9% of his passes for 2,494 yards, 15 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Jacoby Brissett (2016 – Round 3, Pick No. 91)

Brissett started two games in 2016, leading the team to a 1-1 record. He completed 61.8% of his passes for 400 yards.

Mac Jones (2021 – Round 1, Pick No. 15)

Jones started 17 games in 2021, leading the team to a 10-7 record. He completed 67.6% of his passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on his way to the Pro Bowl.

Bailey Zappe (2022 – Round 4, Pick No. 137)

Zappe started two games in 2022, leading the team to a 2-0 record. He completed 70.7% of his passes for 781 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.
