A universe of universes will be scrawled across the diamond at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night when the Yankees take on the Dodgers in Game 2 of the 2024 World Series.

The matchup is as decisive as they come. A 1-0 series deficit is manageable. 2-0 is a chasm โ€” just 15 teams have overcame a 2-0 disadvantage to win a seven-game series in MLB history.

Freddie Freeman’s last-gasp heroics made the difference Friday night, as his walk-off grand slam delivered a 6-3 victory to Los Angeles that appeared unlikely at various points throughout the contest.

Saturday’s Game 2 could very well be decided in a similar manner. For a neutral observer, that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

The Sporting News is tracking live scoring updates and highlights from World Series Game 2 between the Yankees and Dodgers. Follow along with the action below.

End of ninth inning: Dodgers 4, Yankees 2

11:09 p.m.: The Dodgers hold on! Jose Trevino flies out to center as Los Angeles hangs on, 4-2!

11:05 p.m.: Volpe whiffs on the breaking ball! Two away! Dave Roberts will swap Treinen for Alex Vesia to record that much-needed final out of the contest.

11:02 p.m.: Treinen hits Rizzo! That bases are loaded with one away! And it’s Volpe at the plate!

10:59 p.m.: Impressive at-bat by Chisholm, who laces Treinen’s breaking ball into right field to move Stanton into scoring position. Rizzo is up to the plate. He represents the go-ahead run.

10:57 p.m.: Stanton delivers on the ensuing at-bat, smoking a liner into the third base bag to bring home Soto. Chisholm will step to the plate as the tying run!

Dodgers 4, Yankees 2

10:56 p.m.: Judge strikes out again. That’s his third of the night. Another dour showing by the New York megastar.

10:55 p.m.: Soto takes second after Treinen misses the target on his fastball.

10:53 p.m.: Soto corks a Treinen fastball that caught too much of the plate to right field. Just barely misses clearing the wall. But the bounce helps Betts, who’s able to hold Soto to a single.

10:51 p.m.: Blake Treinen tasked with facing the heart of New York’s lineup. First up: Soto, who has the Yankees’ only hit of the game, that third inning dinger.

10:47 p.m.: Mark Leiter Jr. performs admirably as the Yanks get out the eighth without giving up a hit. Yankees got three outs to get themselves back into the game.

10:40 p.m.: Kopech records a 1-2-3 inning as the Dodgers move three outs way from a 2-0 lead.

10:39 p.m.: Latest news on Ohtani’s issue โ€” it’s related to his shoulder, not his wrist. No word on the severity of the injury, according to Ken Rosenthal.

10:38 p.m.: Michael Kopech takes the ball from Banda and instantly records two outs.

10:32 p.m.: Ohtani walks and attempts to take second via steal. His attempt proves unsuccessful, with Wells throwing him out. Looks like he came off worse for the wear, as well; he’s holding his left wrist and looks to be in some serious discomfort as the seventh comes to a close. Medical personnel stream onto the diamond to tend to his wounds.

10:23 p.m.: Volpe flies out to center and the top half of the seventh slams shut.

10:22 p.m.: Rizzo takes first after Banda grazes his hand with a lively fastball.

10:21 p.m.: Banda sets Chisholm aside via lazy fly ball.

10:13 p.m.: Yamamoto exits the game to a hero’s welcome after coaxing Stanton into more weak contact. The final line tells the story for the Japanese supernova โ€” 6.1 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one run allowed, two walks conceded and four strikeouts. Anthony Banda looks set to take the mantle from Yamamoto in the top of the seventh.

10:07 p.m.: New York gets out of the sixth unscathed, using Hill and Clay Holmes to record three outs.

9:57 p.m.: Impressive showing thus far for Yamamoto, who swept aside two of the best bats in baseball with relative ease. Forced Soto to ground out weakly before whiffing Judge again, this time with the splitter. He’s given up just one hit in six innings of work.

9:53 p.m.: Hill finishes the inning in style, striking out Edman.

9:51 p.m.: Hill gets Freeman to pop out.

9:50 p.m.: Tim Hill takes the mound. New York fans might be feeling a bit of deja vu after seeing Hill spurned in favor of Cortes last night.

9:47 p.m.: Cousins exits the game after giving up a loud single to Hernandez. Not looking great for the Yanks to start the bottom half of the fifth.

9:41 p.m.: Wells heads back to the dugout after a weak grounder finds Freeman’s grasp, while Verdugo flies out to left on the ensuing at-bat. Yamamoto has retired seven straight since surrendering the homer to Soto.

9:39 p.m.: Yamamoto returns to the mound for the fifth and immediately sets Volpe aside on strikes.

End of fourth inning

9:34 p.m.: Rojas grounds out to Torres in second. Smith advances to third. Cousins proceeds to force Ohtani into grounding out at the fourth inning comes to a close.

9:31 p.m.: Will Smith lines Cousins’ misfire into above Judge’s head, setting up a one-out double. Rojas is up to the plate. It’s very possible Ohtani could get a chance with RISP.

9:26 p.m.: Rodon strikes out Max Muncy. Cousins is making his walk to the mound with one away.

9:22 p.m.: Yamamoto goes 1-2-3 in the top half. Looks like Cousins is heading into the game for New York.

End of third inning

9:16 p.m.: Rodon misses his spot on the inside fastball but gets away with it. Hernandez flies out to left, bringing the third inning to a merciful end.

9:15 p.m.: Edman takes third. Jake Cousins warming up in the bullpen as Kike Hernandez takes some cuts.

9:13 p.m.: Edman keeps the good times going, lacing another errant Rodon fastball into the outfield grass. He’ll strut into second base with ease. Four straight hits surrendered by Rodon, three of which are of the extra base hit variety. He’s getting shelled.

9:11 p.m.: HOME RUN! Freeman goes back-to-back, turning on an inside Rodon fastball that looked eerily similar to the one he received last night!

Dodgers 4, Yankees 1

9:08 p.m.: HOME RUN! Hernandez goes opposite field on Rodon’s outside fastball, giving the Dodgers a two-run advantage!

Dodgers 3, Yankees 1

9:06 p.m.: Betts gets on with his second single of the game.

9:05 p.m.: Rodon confounds Ohtani with the outside slider. The Japanese supernova whiffs over top of it for the second out of the inning.

9:03 p.m.: Rojas flies out to Soto in right field. That will bring Ohtani to the plate โ€” with the bases clean.

8:59 p.m.: Judge flies out to Betts to end the frame.

8:55 p.m: HOME RUN! Juan Soto devours Yamamoto’s fastball and sends it spiraling into the right field bleachers. Tie game in the blink of an eye.

Yankees 1, Dodgers 1

End of second inning

8:49 p.m.: Rodon records two quick outs to bring the second frame to a close.

8:44 p.m.: HOME RUN! Edman pumps a center-cut fastball into the left field stands to kick off the bottom of the second inning!

Dodgers 1, Yankees 0

8:40 p.m.: Yamamoto overcomes the one-out walk to Rizzo, retiring Volpe and Austin Wells via fly out and ground out, respectively.

8:38 p.m.: Jazz Chisholm grounds out to Yamamoto, while Anthony Rizzo ekes out a walk to get a duck on the pond for Anthony Volpe.

End of first inning

8:32 p.m.: Freeman skies out to Rizzo in first. Onto the second inning we go.

8:31 p.m.: Teoscar Hernandez flies out in right. Freeman returns to the scene of the crime for another duel against a lefty.

8:29 p.m.: Betts strokes a misfired changeup into right field, recording his first hit of the series in the process.

8:27 p.m.: Ohtani flies out to Judge in center to start proceedings. Mookie Betts strolls to the plate.

8:23 p.m.: Gutsy pitching by Yamamoto, whose breaking ball drops through the bottom of the zone at the last second, baffling Judge. The prospective AL MVP strikes out. Giancarlo Stanton follows it up with a first-pitch pop out to first base. Yamamoto gets out the inning unscathed.

8:21 p.m.: Yamamoto coaxes weak contact out of Soto. Gets the Yankees standout to ground out to short. Torres advances to second. Aaron Judge struts to the plate hoping to break his postseason slump.

8:18 p.m.: Yamamoto surrenders a lead off walk to Torres. Sets the table to Juan Soto in the No. 2 spot.

8:15 p.m.: And we’re off! Yamamoto deals to Gleyber Torres and the contest begins!

8:10 p.m.: Ice Cube offers a stirring rendition of “It Was a Good Day” to lead off the festivities tonight. How fitting…

7:40 p.m.: It’s all about the finer details at Dodgers Stadium tonight. First pitch at 8:08 p.m. ET.

7:30 p.m.: Still plenty of intrigue regarding Aaron Boone’s decision to turn to Nestor Cortes last night. Here what Boone had to say about his choice prior to tonight’s game:

7:00 p.m.: Here’s a look at Freeman warming up for Game 2. Surprisingly enough, he was firing darts towards home plate as a pitcher. Seems like he’s in good stead to go again in tonight’s lineup.

6:45 p.m.: Here’s a look at New York and Los Angeles’ lineups for Game 2. A bit a wrinkle in the Dodgers’ setup compared to Game 1 โ€” Dave Roberts’ side will have Teoscar Hernandez bat third, Freddie Freeman bat cleanup and Tommy Edman hit sixth.

6:30 p.m.: Carlos Rodon and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are set to joust for pitching supremacy tonight. Rodon has a career 4.50 ERA across five starts against the Dodgers. Yamamoto, meanwhile, has only made one appearance against New York โ€” a seven-inning masterpiece that saw the Japanese supernova surrender just two hits.

A similar outing on Saturday night would have Dodgers feeling a whole lot better about their chances of hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy once the dust is settled.
