The road to WrestleMania 40 has officially begun. Florida will be the first of many stops as WWE presents the Royal Rumble on January 27. In Tropicana Field, the traditional event airs on Peacock in the U.S. and the WWE Network elsewhere.

The rules of the Royal Rumble match are straightforward: 30 wrestlers are assigned a spot in the match at random. The first two participants kick things off, and thereafter at one-minute or 90-second intervals, another wrestler comes out.

That process continues until all the competitors have entered the match. To be eliminated, a wrestler must be tossed over the top rope, and both feet must touch the floor.

The only way to win is by being the last person in the ring.

On the men’s side, CM Punk enters his first Royal Rumble since 2014. He’s joined by 2023 winner Cody Rhodes, Gunther, Damian Priest and Bobby Lashley.

The women’s Rumble will see former winners Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair involved. Joining them will be Bayley and Nia Jax.

Who will win this year’s Rumble and put themselves in the history books? Will there be any surprise appearances? We’ll keep you updated below.

WWE Royal Rumble 2024 results, highlights

Welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of the 2024 Royal Rumble.

Hulk Hogan opened the show and the fans were already on their feet. Pat McAfee once again surprised fans by entering the ring to be guest commentator.

The women’s Royal Rumble match opened the show.

Natalya, an Iron Woman of sorts, was the first entrant. The returning Naomi, is back at number two to a huge ovation. She left WWE a few years ago with Sasha Banks and is back after a run as TNA Wrestling Knockouts Champion.

Bayley entered at number three followed by Candice LeRae. TNA Wrestling Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace made her debut. Fresh off beating Naomi for the title. The crowd gave her a huge reaction, and it showcased WWE’s new relationship with TNA that worked well with Mickie James a few years ago. Indi Hartwell (eliminated early) came to help Candice and then Asuka came to help Bayley. The theme early on was teams and debuts/returns.

As the event went on, NXT and WWE stars entered the ring, including Ivy Nile and Katana Chance. Grace and Nile used their strength to showboat, a cool sight. Things picked up when Bianca Belair entered at number ten. Kairi Sane entered her first Rumble match since returning from Japan and Tegan Nox followed her. Sane almost had the saving move of the match, putting her feet on the LED boards to hold herself together. Sadly, she could not keep it up.

Eliminations started going wild, with Belair landing the KOD on Grace on the outside a key highlight.
