Xander Schauffele has perfected the art of getting hot in major championships. In May, he finally finished the job. Could he do it again?

Schauffele caught fire at the right time at the Open Championship on Sunday, surging to the lead with just five holes remaining. The player who couldn’t put it all together for 72 holes in majors suddenly moved to the doorstep of two major wins in a year.

Schauffele finished the job, shooting 9-under for the tournament, and became the first player with multiple major championships in one year since Brooks Koepka in 2018 when he got it done at Royal Troon.

Here’s what you need to know about Schauffele’s majors history and best finishes.

Has Xander Schauffele won the British Open?

Schauffele had never won the Open Championship. He’s made the cut in each of his appearances in the tournament but only had one top-10 finish entering 2024. That was a tie for second place in 2018, when Francesco Molinari won.

After top-20 finishes in each of the last two years, Schauffele entered 2024 even more confident and remained steady before surging to the top of the leaderboard when it mattered most.

Piecing together stretches of dominance haven’t been a problem for Schauffele when the lights shine the brightest. Putting it all together for four rounds has proven much more challenging, but he’s shown in 2024 that those days are behind him.

Has Xander Schauffele won a major?

Schauffele has two majors wins in his career. His victory in the 2024 PGA Championship was the first major win of his career, and it came after a series of close calls by the 30-year-old golfer, and he followed that up with a win at the 2024 British Open.

Schauffele has a whopping 15 top-10 finishes in major championships, including multiple top-10 finishes in five of the past six years. His previous closest calls came at the 2019 Masters, when he finished just one stroke behind winner Tiger Woods, and the 2018 Open Championship.

Two of 2023’s four majors were won by first-timers in Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman, and Schauffele kept that trend going with his win at the PGA Championship. Schauffele can quickly leave the one-time major champions club with a win at Royal Troon on Sunday.
